No really did you? Are you kidding me? We go on a major hitting streak and what? Did I watch this correctly? Damn this game is frustrating?

Two Games today...

and I'm going to one of them!

Yesterday afternoon, into the evening, we had some scary storms blow through. We even had tornado warnings! (unlike in the Midwest, there are no storm sirens, so we get our warnings via radio/TV) There were many trees down in our neighborhood, and we lost power for the 1st time in 2.5 years. So instead of finding a radio broadcast of the game, I listened to weather reports. Luckily, the game was postponed.

See you tonight at the ball game! I've decided to wear the new Yadi tshirt, in case you're wondering.

Anxiously Awaiting....

the arrival of the Cards to Washington DC! Can I find what hotel they're staying in to do some autograph stalking?!

I know, I'm lame....but we've got the Tiny Zim Fan to think of....we're only going to one game in the series. (The games are all on school nights! DRATS!)
Thursday Night we are there! so watch for an animated post after that! maybe even pictures!

until then, I'm hoping work is giving out the box seats for game 1 and game 2!

JIMMMMMMYYYYY...

Well, you all knew this was coming....my beloved Jim Edmonds! I have to admit I was devasted when he was let go. And then the Padres let him go. And THEN the CUBS picked him up! I understand the love of the game. I understand you want to play Jimmy - but the CUBS....breaks my heart! I might even have to re-name my kidney.........

My IT guy (Cub fan) predicts Jimmy will hit 20 home runs this year! This is also the same guy that says Albert should cross over to the dark side - I think the IT guy needs to back away from his computer and open his eyes or at least stop torturing me with this nonsense!

I was at the 4th grade recorder spring concert last night (my nephew was playing)....nothing can compare to their version of Hot Cross Buns! Anyway afterwards we went to DQ for a little frozen treat and the truth came out...my nephew admitted to be a Cubs fan. OHHH the heartbreak and devastation. And then my younger sister said - I think Im going to switch to the Yankees. WHAT THE...Are you even related? I can't believe those words came out of her mouth! The horror....

Stop the Izzy Bashing...

yeah, he's been rocky of late...but another stat that I think is alarming is the number of runners left of base?! They've got plenty of chances to bring some of those guys home, but fail to do so.
There's no 'I' in baseball. It's a team effort.


p.s. I have to admit, I didn't wear my hat faithfully yesterday. I really think that the loss should be my responsibility.

some observations on Yadi....

I'm watching the Colorado game on Tuesday and I'm noticing that Yadi seems to be alot more animated behind the plate lately. patting the plate, catching with one knee on the ground, hopping around while squattin. He's just really fun to watch, isn't he? one damn fine catcher!

now some notes on Looper - does the guy seem like he's smiling a big 'ole toothy grin when he's pitching? It just cracks me up. He can do whatever it takes...he's 2 for 2 right now in the 3rd inning!
last year, when Anissa and I were 'watching' a game together, we realized that Braden looks *alot* like our brother. It was kinda freakin us out. Our brother doesn't play baseball though. He plays the drums.

What a Throw!

Yadi's pick-off at 2nd - in the 5th inning has to be one of the FINEST examples of great ballplaying in Cards history! Did you see Wellemeyer duck and then fall to get out of the way?!

There's a great pic from the St.Louis Post Dispatch website...in the dugout after the play. Yadi - still in his catcher's gear is pointing to Izturis to give him some credit for catching that bullet.

Today was a great day...

Despite the fact that I have a killer sore throat...I left for working wishing I could just stay in bed. And the coolest thing happened - in my mail was the official Cardinal Nation Founding Member card that I had been waiting for....and it had my name on it - my real last name! OK - I admit I cried and most people won't understand the significance - trust me its AWESOME!

And to top off the day - the Cards won AGAIN. Which means what? We are back in first! AND I won the bet at work with an intern - he's a Sox fan! So he has to take me to lunch!

PS to my IT guy at work - the Cubs fan - THE BIG RED TRAIN IS ROLLING IN!!

Take Me Out to the Ballgame...

YES - I know this blog is about STL...but trust me, there's a reference to the Cards in this story!

We visited the brand-spanking new Nationals Stadium here in gloomy DC yesterday for our first game this season. We froze our hineys off as the temps were only in the 50s. The Nats played the Cubs and WON (yes, helping us out in the standings!)

Of course, the tyke went with us. WHY - because she's a huge RYAN ZIMMERMAN fan!
Little Miss asks me in the 3rd inning 'Where's Albert Pujols?'!
I had to explain we were watching the Nats and not the Cards.
I think she got it.
Until she asks me what Yadi's number is.

Last night - over the baby monitor, the last thing we heard before she drifted off to sleep....she sang the entire song of 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame'.

Whose on first?

Just a couple of issues....
1. Why does my IT guy at work hate me so much? I can't get the game on the radio....I can't listen to it on my computer...oh thats right - HE'S A CUB FAN!!

2. Seriously who was on first? When my sister called me because the game had tied - Albert playing second and LaRue on first??!!

3. They lost again - is that not like 4 in a row now. Amy are you wearing your hat to work? And how many pitchers did we burn through today?

Come on boys - we need to step it up a notch!!!

...okay, I have to admit that I think this guy is awesome! He caught my eye in spring training with his speed. That speed certainly helped last night when he turned that single into a double. He does need to get maybe a half size bigger helmet though, to fit over those locks of his! :-)

Is It Me????

or does the early season schedule seem to repeat matchups ALOT? We just played the Brewers last week. And Houston...MUST we see GW again so soon? (oh wait, the next Houston series is in Busch Stadium. Thank Goodness!).

I've also noticed this 'repeat' phenom with the *other* team that I follow.

Let's get this offense started again - okay?!

Okay...on the chance of jinxing the game, I'm blogging.....then again, it is 9-1 in the Fifth Inning! I'm so happy to see Albert finally pull a BIG ONE!
....and then the intentional walk to ______? I was just focused on the fact that the SF pitcher almost threw a STRIKE?! I think I could have thrown intentional balls better than him!

p.s. I have to admit, I did not wear my hat yesterday - when STL BLEW the lead and lost in the 10th inning. It was my fault. I came home sick and didn't do my whole game-day ritual. Today - I woke up and put my hat on.

Have to admit I'm a little bummed tonight! Tough loss. A few observations....

-Troy Glaus....if you are going to stay at 3rd I suggest we work on the side arm throw a little bit over the next couple days. AND spit out the freakin chew!! (we all know how I feel about chew)

-Kennedy at 2nd - a little more comfortable with Kennedy vs Miles

-Albert - since when did you start hitting the first pitch thrown....you didn't do that last year and I see no reason to start now....relax dude. Am I right with the BLING?

-McClellan - not bad for your opening day

-Lohse - I liked what I saw - good start - keep it up!!

-IZZY - You are still my favorite!

And last but not least - YADI! YADI! YADI! WOO HOO! Now if we can just get the announcers to stop saying "He lost so much weight he barely got that over the wall" What the heck is that about?

So for three innings we got a glimpse of what is to come for the 2008 season. Wainwright looked good - in control after the first inning nerves went away. Skip made a fantastic Edmonds like catch in the first...nice. (Im still in denial) Ankiel and Yadi hitting well I see - Albert, Albert, Albert - your first home run - tear - thats right a small tear was shed. A proud moment to rub in some people's faces at work who keep telling me Albert is going down this year! And then the rain started and it kept coming and I knew the game would be called.

So, tomorrow, the same ritual will be set at 7:15pm - I wonder if its too early in the season to be wearing the same clothes for every game - I would hate to jinx anything!

Let the games begin...again!

Who else is excited? I have the day off and even though I don't have tickets - you know I will be sitting in front of the TV - jersey on - Albert Pujols cardboard cutout next to me - every Cardinal blanket and pillow is already out....Watching the game drinking a BUD!!! (as my dad always says)

I have spent the day reading as much as I can about the team...new players and all. A whole new set of jersey numbers to learn. Something that keeps coming up though is the alleged domination of the Chicago Cubs in the National League. Most sportscasters are predicting the Cubs will BE in the World Series but will not WIN it. I suppose everyone is entitled to the chance!

So join me in raising your glass - Here's to you Tony LaRussa, Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, IZZY, Rick Ankiel, Adam Wainwright and the rest of the team - may your warm ups be productive - your games played to the best of your ability - and your health always be better than mine!!

It's Gettin Hot in Here

Live...from Jupiter FLA....it's Amy reporting from Spring Training 2008!
Today was the 1st game in Jupiter - we caught them up playing the Mets yesterday.
I'm not complaining. really...but wearing your custom Pujols poly jersey in 85 degrees of pure Florida sunshine - it's H-O-T! Bud Man...where are you??!!
So, they lost today. and I really didn't see much of the game. the tiny tike was ready to get out of the sun (um, yeah, the blanket BlUEA goes everywhere with us, even to the games!) so I watched her bounce in a blowup bouncy thing and eat a red snowcone. Not much of the game.

However - Yadie was HOT on Saturday. TWO doubles. the tike kept yelling 'Scottie is a Hottie'. yeah, we need to work on that.

and my big news! I got my green St Patty's day STL hat! TwO of them in fact!!
I've been wanting a green STL hat for.....YEARS!

....did I mention that my birthday is Tuesday - March 18th?

Cards pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training this Thursday, February 14th! That makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Valentine's Day! Florida sun!
I can't wait to see this Colby kid.

Where are all the players going?

OK, I finally went out to the Cardinal website to face up to reality....a chunk of players are gone...Jim Edmonds, Scott Rolen, So Taguchi, Eckstein...who are the new guys?? Do we really know them? Are we going to be able to re-build so that this year we can at least finish ahead of the Cubs? I lost a bet last year and was forced to dress up as a Cub fan for Halloween. It was frightening and I never want to have to do that again.

I think its time to start researching and getting the momentum going for the NEW and IMPROVED St. Louis Cardinals. Come on Ladies - Whose with me??
